The Athens Epidaurus Festival and the VOXReality Project are collaborating on the first-ever Augmented Theatre pilot, a groundbreaking initiative that integrates XR technology into live theatrical performances.
VoxReality Promo
VOXReality is an innovative research project funded by HORIZON EUROPE, a European Union initiative. The project is dedicated to exploring voice-driven interactions within XR environments. For more details, visit the VOXReality website.
The Augmented Theatre Pilot
This pilot study aims to explore how voice commands can be utilized for subtitling and special visual effects in theatrical plays. Through XR headsets, participants will experience real-time subtitle captions and audiovisual effects during a short theatrical excerpt. The headsets allow users to customize their experience according to their preferences and languages, providing a unique and personalized interaction with the performance.
Seeking International Participants
The organizers of this project are looking for non-Greek native speakers who are interested in cutting-edge technologies and theatre to participate in this exciting pilot study. Your insights and perspectives will be invaluable as we advance this pioneering project.
What to Expect
Participants will watch a theatre performance while wearing AR glasses, which will provide real-time subtitles and visual effects. After the performance, participants will complete a questionnaire and participate in a short interview. The entire study will last approximately 60 minutes.
Take part
The pilot is scheduled for the 4th and 5th of June 2024. To express your interest, please contact e.oikonomou@aefestival.gr. As a token of their appreciation, each participant will receive two invitations to upcoming performances at the Peireos 260 venue of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
