In a compelling display of sailing expertise, the Hellenic Sailing Federation is on the brink of hosting a prestigious event, once known as Eurolymp: the 33rd Athens International Sailing Week 2024.
Kicking off on November 22 and running for a full week, the event promises to be one of the largest in recent history. The competition will unfold in two distinct phases: from November 22 to 24, races will feature the Development categories, while the Olympic classes will compete from November 25 to 29, coinciding with the national championships.
The meticulous preparations by the Hellenic Sailing Federation have involved collaboration with six local sailing clubs, ensuring that the races take place in top-notch conditions across their waters.
Race venues are set, with the Nautical Club of Vouliagmeni hosting the Techno 293 and 293 Plus classes, the Nautical Club of Kalamaki welcoming the Optimist class, and the Nautical Club of Palaio Faliro featuring the 420s, 49ers, and 470 mixed classes. The Nautical Club of Voula will see competition in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 for men and women, and ILCA 7 classes, while the Nautical Club of Vari-Varkiza will host the iQFOiL classes. The NAS will showcase the Lightning class.
The call for participants has already sparked interest, with sailors from Germany, Hungary, Cyprus, and Turkey among those confirming their attendance.
With an estimated 450 boats and around 500 athletes expected to participate, the 33rd Athens International Sailing Week is poised to be an exhilarating spectacle for sailing enthusiasts and athletes alike. As this remarkable event approaches, it promises to bring together a vibrant community and showcase the spirit of international competition.
