Embassies and representatives from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, and many more countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, have come together to express their support for the LGBTQI+ community in Greece.

Please find below the full statement of support from the embassies and representatives listed above.

Embassies and Representatives of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, the European Commission’s Representation in Greece, the European Parliament’s Office in Greece, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom express their support for EuroPride 2024 in Thessaloniki and Athens Pride 2024 by marching together, participating in events, and offering the following words:

We welcome Greece’s passage of marriage equality and adoption equality legislation this past February, paving the way for equal rights for LBGTQI+ persons.  We recognize that despite this remarkable progress, achieved against the backdrop of a growing rollback of LGBTQI+ rights worldwide, the work continues, and the cause endures.  We hope you will join us and the LGBTQI+ community in Greece as we commit to persevering, progressing, and prospering together.

Our countries commit to respecting and promoting the rights of all people.  We reaffirm that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI+) persons are entitled to universal human rights.  We support equal treatment and full enjoyment of rights for LGBTQI+ people in every aspect of their lives.

We hope our message can serve as an invitation for more people to unite in this important cause.
