From 6 February to 31 May 2026, Athens hosts an ambitious digital exhibition dedicated to one of the most compelling figures of modern art. Frida Kahlo: Beyond the Icon invites visitors to look beyond the familiar image of the Mexican painter and step into the life, emotions and inner world of a woman who turned pain into creative power.

Blending biography, art and technology, the exhibition unfolds as a deeply immersive journey that speaks not only to art lovers, but to anyone drawn to stories of resilience, identity and self-expression.

Looking Beyond the Myth

As the title suggests, Beyond the Icon moves past the symbolic image that has come to define Frida Kahlo. Rather than focusing exclusively on her paintings, the exhibition explores the experiences that shaped her work: chronic physical suffering, intense emotional relationships and an unyielding desire to live on her own terms.

Through a carefully layered narrative, visitors discover how Fridaโ€™s personal struggles and revolutionary spirit became inseparable from her artistic voice โ€” transforming her into a global cultural figure whose message remains strikingly relevant today.

A Multisensory Journey Through Fridaโ€™s World

The exhibition combines traditional displays with digital installations, 360-degree projections and virtual reality, creating a rich, multisensory experience. Key moments of Frida Kahloโ€™s life are reimagined through modern storytelling techniques, allowing visitors to engage with her story emotionally as well as intellectually.

Rather than observing from a distance, the audience is encouraged to move through Fridaโ€™s universe โ€” from moments of joy and creativity to periods of pain, isolation and transformation.
