On Christmas Eve 2024, the enchanting city of Athens opens its heart, inviting everyone to whisper their dreams and wishes into the night sky. Join Athenians in a cherished tradition that has blossomed over the past five yearsโtheย “Night of Wishes.”ย Set against the backdrop ofย Kotzia Square, right in front of the Athens City Hall, this event promises an evening filled with hope, joy, and warmth.
Beginning at 18:00 on Tuesday, December 24th, 2024, the square will be illuminated by the glow of people lighting their lanternsโa sight not to be missed. Residents and visitors alike gather in Kotzia Square to obtain their paper and biodegradable lanterns, which symbolize hopes for luck and happiness. Youโll light your lantern and join others in sending them up into the night sky, creating a breathtaking display that unites our wishes and dreams.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas beautifully captures the spirit of the evening: โOn Christmas Eve, our wishes fill the sky of Athens. We invite everyone, both young and old, to the โNight of Wishesโ in Kotzia Square, where we will spread love, joy, and hope throughout the world.โ
Festive sounds from Athens 9.84 radio station will be broadcasting live from Kotzia Square, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. We encourage you to linger after the lantern release and soak in the lively spirit of the evening,
