Seaside Feasting: A Foodie’s Guide to Summer Dining by the Athenian Riviera

To all foodies and beach lovers, imagine this: the sun shining, the waves crashing, and the smell of delicious seafood wafting through the air. That’s the vibe along the coast of Attica, where seaside dining is an experience like no other. From Glyfada to Porto Rafti, the Athenian Riviera is a treasure trove of culinary delights waiting to be explored.

But first it’s important to know how and what to order

Some free advice from the locals

Ordering food at Greek tavernas can be a bit of a process, instead of individual orders, Greeks prefer to share a variety of small plates (mezedes) and main dishes placed in the middle of the table (sti mesi). This communal dining style adds to the lively atmosphere and encourages sharing among friends and family.

A helpful tip from the locals: the mezedes, or small plates, are often the highlight of the meal, so don’t be shy to indulge in those dishes and perhaps scale back on ordering too many main courses. Also, at these places, they might just invite you to take a peek behind the scenes and choose your own fish. It’s like a seafood scavenger hunt, but with a tasty reward at the end! Remember, clear eyes mean fresh fish, so keep an eye out for the good stuff.
