Are you an Italian living in Greece or an Italian cinema aficionado? Well, get ready for an exciting cinematic journey with the 4th Tribute Cinema Made in Italy! The Greek Film Archive, Cinecittà, the Italian Embassy in Greece, and the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens are bringing the essence of Italy to our screens, unveiling six fresh Italian films in their Greek premieres—straight from the world’s top international film festivals.
Event Overview
Following the great success of previous editions, the 4th Tribute Cinema Made in Italy/Athens will take place from November 21st to 27th (excluding Monday, November 25th) at the Greek Film Archive, showcasing a selection of recent films that represent contemporary Italian cinema.
Program Highlights
- 6 new Italian films in Greek premieres from the greatest international film festivals
- 2 restored Italian classics on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Marcello Mastroianni’s birth:
- Federico Fellini’s 8 ½ (starring Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale)
- Ettore Scola’s A Special Day/Una Giornata Particolare (starring Marcello Mastroianni and Sofia Loren)
Special Guests and Screenings
- Sunday, November 24th:
- Pupi Avati: The renowned Italian director, screenwriter, and producer will attend the screening of his latest film, The American Backyard/L’orto americano.
- Toni Servillo: The acclaimed Italian actor will be present for the screening of Paolo Sorrentino’s Oscar-winning The Great Beauty/La Grande Bellezza.
- Toni Servillo will also perform his show, “The Voices of Dante/Le voci di Dante” on November 25th at the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas”.
A Cinematic Journey to Italy
Greek premieres, new talents, and special guests will accompany us on a cinematic journey to the homeland of Fellini, Visconti, Pasolini, and Antonioni. In total, 9 fiction films will be screened, all of which have won important awards and participated in the greatest film festivals worldwide, including the Berlinale, Locarno and Venice.
Opening Night & Special Screening
- Friday, November 22nd (by invitation only):
- Greek premiere of Gloria! by Margherita Vicario, which was screened at the Berlin Film Festival.
- Actress Maria Vittoria Dallasta will attend the screening.
- The screening will be introduced by:
- Paolo Cuculi, Ambassador of Italy
- Maria Komninos, President of the Board, Greek Film Archive
- Cristina Cassano, Cinecittà (“Promotion of contemporary Italian cinema to the entire world”)
- General public screening on Tuesday, November 26th.
