Commemorating 50 Years Since the Restoration of Democracy in Greece

This year marks a significant milestone in Greek history, as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Restoration of Democracy in our country. The events that unfolded in July 1974, leading to the downfall of the oppressive, tyrannical regime, are being remembered and celebrated in various ways across Greece.

The period between July 1974 and June 1975, known as the transition period, was a crucial time for Greece as it embarked on a path towards progress and European integration. The participation of all political forces of the time played a key role in shaping the modern history of Greece.

To honor this historical moment, a series of events and activities have been organized throughout the country. Concerts featuring bands from the Armed Forces, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the MUSICA Choir of the Athens Concert Hall, and the String Quartet of the Athens Conservatoire are taking place to showcase the cultural richness and diversity of Greece.

Additionally, an exhibition of cartoons from the era, created by more than 50 cartoonists, is being held in the garden of the Presidential Mansion. These cartoons provide a unique insight into the historical events that unfolded between July 1974 and August 1975, capturing the spirit of the time with humor and wit.

The Union of Greek Cartoonists has generously provided these works to the Presidential Mansion, where they will be on display until July 24th. This exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into the past and the challenges faced by Greece during this transformative period.

As we reflect on the past and celebrate the progress made since the Restoration of Democracy, it is important to recognize the resilience and determination of the Greek people in overcoming adversity and moving towards a brighter future. This historical moment serves as a reminder of the importance of democracy, freedom, and unity in shaping the destiny of a nation.

People who wish to visit the Presidential Mansion should have their police ID or passport with them. It is noted that the garden remains open to the public every Sunday from 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon.

For group visits such as schools, clubs, etc., you can contact the following phone numbers: 210-72 83 289 and 210-72 24 939.

The international community residing in Greece is invited to join in these commemorative events and learn more about the events that marked this significant moment in Greek history. Let us come together to celebrate the values of democracy and freedom that unite us all and make this world a much better place.
