AthensWay, the City of Athens’ new free app, brings parking payments, live bus information and other travel services together in one place. It succeeds myAthensPass and lets drivers check available spaces at the municipal underground car park in Kotzia Square before they arrive.
The municipality announced AthensWay on 17 September 2026, with the changeover scheduled for 20 September and availability from Monday 21 September. Developed through DAEM, the municipality’s technology company, the app serves both residents and visitors.
What happens to your myAthensPass account?
If you already use myAthensPass, sign in to AthensWay with the same email address. According to the municipality, your profile, remaining electronic wallet balance and parking-ticket history transfer automatically.
When you first top up your wallet in AthensWay, you will need to enter your bank card details again for security reasons. On your first login, the app also introduces its new features and asks you to accept the updated terms of use.
How to pay for parking
Start by checking the street sign to confirm that you have parked in a visitor space within the controlled-parking zone. Then open AthensWay and follow these steps:
- Confirm that you are within the controlled-parking zone when the app prompts you.
- Enter your vehicle’s number plate.
- Select a parking period from 30 to 180 minutes and check the total cost before confirming.
- Pay and activate your parking ticket. You can top up your electronic wallet using a bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The app also allows ticket activation without a separate wallet top-up beforehand.
Once you have activated a ticket, AthensWay can notify you before your time expires. You can extend your parking remotely, subject to the three-hour maximum, and save several number plates to buy parking time for different vehicles.
You can also buy a ticket in advance for the next operating day or period, check the system’s operating hours and view your transaction history and digital receipts. The app automatically checks whether controlled-parking hours are in effect and informs you.
Parking hours and maximum stay
The municipality’s announcement sets out the following rules for its 11 visitor controlled-parking zones:

Parking periods range from 30 minutes to three hours, with the price depending on the length of your stay. The app shows the amount before you confirm your ticket.
According to the announcement, vehicles displaying a disability parking badge can use visitor spaces free of charge on all days and at all times. Electric vehicles can also use visitor spaces free of charge, with a maximum stay of three hours.
Check parking availability at Kotzia Square
AthensWay shows live availability at the municipal underground car park in Kotzia Square, including the number of available spaces and the percentage of spaces occupied. Drivers can therefore check capacity before heading to the car park.
The app also displays the locations of municipal underground car parks. The announcement specifically identifies Kotzia Square as the car park with real-time availability information.
Follow buses and check arrival times
For journeys by public transport, AthensWay provides live information about buses operated within the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA) network. Users can browse lines and services, check estimated arrival times and follow bus locations on a map.
You can also save favourite routes and view route and stop information, making it easier to check the services you use regularly.
Charging points and other services
Alongside parking and bus information, AthensWay includes:
- Electric-vehicle charging locations and directions to reach them.
- A reporting function for road-safety issues.
- Locations of outlets selling parking time.
- Frequently asked questions, parking instructions and useful telephone numbers.
- Municipal news, announcements, short polls and information messages.
Paying at a kiosk or other outlet
Drivers can still buy parking time at participating physical outlets, such as kiosks displaying the relevant sign. Payment is available by cash or card.
By providing your number plate, you can activate a parking ticket immediately, extend its duration or buy a ticket for the next operating day or period.

AthensWay is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. Parking fees apply during the visitor parking system’s charging hours.
