Over the past decade, the Athens escape-room scene has gained remarkable recognition across Europe and beyond. Enthusiasts now fly to the Greek capital specifically to play its leading productions, often arranging several games across a long weekend and reserving sought-after rooms weeks ahead.
Athens has developed a style of its own: long, theatrical and frequently frightening. Stories unfold across multiple spaces as actors, lighting and sound control the pace and draw players into the action. Horror remains the dominant genre, with experiences ranging from Gothic mystery and psychological suspense to supernatural drama, pursuit and splatter.
English-language play has helped the city attract an international audience. Many visitors schedule games during the evening, leaving the daytime for Athens before spending two or three hours inside an entirely different world.
The city’s standing is reflected in the 2025 Top Escape Rooms Project, known as TERPECA. Fifteen Athens productions secured places among the world’s top 100, with five finishing within the first 24.
TERPECA draws on rankings submitted by highly experienced international players. Another respected specialist platform, Escape Roomers, offers a closer view of Athens through assessments contributed by escape-room enthusiasts from several countries. Its Athens ranking was last updated in May 2026.
We begin with the five Greek rooms that placed highest in TERPECA’s 2025 world ranking, before comparing all 15 Greek winners with the 15 highest-ranked Athens rooms according to Escape Roomers.
1. Evil Dead, Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat
No 10 worldwide in TERPECA 2025
No 4 in the Escape Roomers Athens ranking

Evil Dead is the highest-ranked Greek escape room in TERPECA’s 2025 world list. It entered the awards for the first time and climbed directly into the international top ten.
The experience places groups of three to five players inside a two-hour cinematic horror story inspired by the world of Evil Dead. Live performance, psychological pressure and splatter effects shape the production, which is available in English and Greek.
TERPECA classifies the room as actively scary. Escape Roomers gives it a scare factor of six out of ten and places it fourth in Athens.

2. Chapel & Catacombs, Lockhill
No 14 worldwide in TERPECA 2025
No 2 in the Escape Roomers Athens ranking

Chapel & Catacombs has become one of the most internationally recognised escape rooms created in Greece. TERPECA named it the best escape room in the world in 2022. It remained close to the summit three years later, standing at No 14 in the 2025 ranking.
The experience is set within the fictional town of Lockhill, where a chapel and the catacombs beside it conceal part of the community’s story. Actors, religious imagery and a Lovecraftian atmosphere carry players through a production lasting two and a half hours.
The game can accommodate up to seven people and is offered in Greek and English. Some recorded and written material is also available in French and Spanish.
Escape Roomers places Chapel & Catacombs second in Athens, giving it a scare factor of seven. The room’s sustained position across successive rankings has made it one of the reference points for the city’s escape-room scene.
